Q&A with Dave and Cindy
What were your goals in the beginning and now?
Dave: Like a lot of people, my original goal was to lose weight and tone up. Now, I want to continue toning and maintain my weight and enjoy life!
Cindy: Before exercising regularly, I always felt tired and did not think I could ever achieve a level of fitness that I wanted. My goal in the beginning was simply to lose weight and feel better about myself. Now, my goal is to maintain and improve upon my level of fitness as well as getting other people excited about getting in shape.
What has been your experience in getting to where you are in regards to fitness?
Dave: Since my journey has started, I no longer take high blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, I have lost 65 pounds, toned up considerably, and now weigh less than I have in 35 years. I also have had to get a different wardrobe because my other clothes didn’t fit anymore.
Cindy: When I started at Catalyst Fitness, I worked out regularly and watched what I ate. I saw some good results. However, after a few months, I didn’t watch what I ate as closely and I stopped seeing as good of results. I stuck with it even though I didn’t feel as good about my progress. I did not give upon on the idea of being fit, but I thought perhaps I would never reach my weight goal. Eating right had to be just as much a part of it as exercise. You need both.
What advice would you pass along to others?
Dave: Eating right and exercise does work! You just have to take that first step. If you hit a wall, dig deep and push through it. Change will happen!
Cindy: Keep trying. Don’t give up. If you bring your body to the workout, the mind will eventually follow. Don’t look at the end goal if you are trying to lose weight. If I thought about losing over 80 pounds in the beginning, it seemed impossible. When I broke it up into 10 pound increments, I thought: “I can do that!” Before I knew it, I lost 30, then 50, then 80. Now, I have actually lowered my goal by another 10 pounds.
What differences do you notice in yourself?
Dave: Before, I felt sluggish and tired all the time. Aches and pains frequently and not comfortable with myself. Now, because of my weight loss, I have more energy. It is still hard to wrap my head around what I have accomplished so far.
Cindy: Before, I hated to have my picture taken. I did not like how I looked. Now, when I look at my picture, I not only feel healthy but I look healthy!
