ROB ABEL

Group fitness instructor, Indiana University alumnus, and your guide to consistent motivation.

Rob Abel brings enthusiasm and practical wisdom to his role as a Group Fitness instructor at Catalyst Fitness, where he was initially drawn by the opportunity to teach Group Power. With certification from Mossa for Group Power and education from what he proudly calls "the best university in the world... Indiana University," Rob combines professional training with a down-to-earth approach that resonates with members of all experience levels. His no-nonsense philosophy that "no workout is ever a bad workout" encourages participants to meet themselves where they are and appreciate every effort.

Creating Community Through Group Power: What Rob loves most about Catalyst is the remarkable community that forms in his Group Power classes. He takes genuine pleasure in watching members' expressions during workouts—sometimes smiling, sometimes grimacing—and observing how they consistently help each other set up equipment and navigate challenges together. This supportive atmosphere transcends the typical gym experience, creating meaningful connections that keep members engaged and coming back.

What Makes Rob Unique:

  • Practical Mindset: Approaches fitness with an accessible "do whatever you can for that moment in your life" attitude that makes exercise approachable.
  • Mossa Certification: Specialized certification in Group Power provides members with safe, effective strength training in a motivating group setting.
  • Budget Bloodhound: Self-described as having an uncanny ability to "sniff out opportunities to save money."
  • Family-Centered: Finds greatest happiness spending time with family, whether at sporting events, movies, or sharing meals together.

When not leading Group Power classes, Rob enjoys his Sunday morning ritual of strong black coffee and solo television time before the rest of the family wakes up. He describes himself as "Hoosier, Deliberate, and Playful" and maintains the philosophy that "Adults devise a plan and follow it. Children do what 'feels good.'" With a desire to travel more in the next five years, Rob balances structure and spontaneity in both his classes and personal life, creating a relatable presence that members connect with.
